Let's hope MLS doesn't give St. Louis a raw deal | STLtoday. A new story on the MLS and St. Louis. Looks like we will not be getting the latest MLS franchise. I am a disappointed but not surprised. It seems that the good guy always gets screwed in these situations. I assume that there was not enough money in back room deals for them to bring the team here. I know that this would be a great market.

The Top 50 Proprietary Programs that Drive You Crazy — and Their Open Source Alternatives | WHDb. Here is a nice list of some alternative software. There are some things not on this list and a lot of stuff is Linux specific but I still think it is a good start and a great resource.

Feb. 22, 1918: A Really Big Kid From Alton, Illinois | Wired. Robert Wadlow would have been 90 today. I walk past his statute whenever I am up on the Alton campus. Everyone who is in the area should take a peek.

Rogue Satellite's Rotten, $10 Billion Legacy | Danger Room from Wired.com. Some interesting history on the satellite that was shot down this week. This looks like a doomed project from the word go. I love the quote from the Boeing engineers when they say that the specs are unbuildable. This is a must read.

IMGP9829cropHere is a shot from the lunar eclipse last night. I was extremely excited about this one. This was the last lunar eclipse of the decade. The next one will be on 21 Dec 2010. I am glad I did not miss this one.

American Idol performances will be on iTunes | crunchgear. This is really cool. I believe this is a great way to enter-twine the internet, "New Media", with TV, "Old Media". This is something I wish they would have had on previous seasons. I know Amber would have loved to have the Carrie Underwood/Rascal Flatts duet from a couple seasons ago.

Controversial college funding bill passed—P2P proviso intact | arstechnica.com. I wrote to my congress people about this matter. This will put undue pressure on College IT staff. This provision needs to be removed from this bill. Here is the EFF's take on the bill and you can track the bill at OpenCongress.org. Update: Even some congress people agree that this is a bad part of the bill.

I called and canceled Direct Kick today. I was very unhappy last year with the blackouts that occurred when I was trying to watch games. It seems that this year will be just as bad since MLS has agreed with Fox Soccer and HDNet to play games. I also found myself not watching as many games last year. I will settle for watching them on ESPN.

MLS Announce 2008 Schedule | soccer365.com. I am looking forward to a new season of MLS. We will see if Beckham can make it onto the pitch this year. I will probably not be watching as many games live this year as I will be dropping my Direct Kick. Last year there were too many blackouts and I was not happy so I will vote with my dollars this year.

Clinton/Obama: Not First Dream Ticket | ABC News. Wow. This is kind of amazing that anyone would even think of this back in those times. I like how the writer chose to remain anonymous, probably for the best. This is interesting to say the least.

U.S. Men Continue Unbeaten Run at Home Against Mexico With Exciting 2-2 Draw in Houston | ussoccer.com. I watched a pretty entertaining game with the US vs. Mexico last night. I was impressed with the way the Mexican team played. They looked like they really wanted to win. We should have played better and won the game. I look forward to the world cup qualifiers later this year.

CNN Hits The Wall for the Election | washingtonpost.com. This is the latest in Election Reporting gear. Once I saw how the multi-touch worked, I knew it would be seen on TV. This is a great example of how computers can make things more interesting. It almost made the election coverage worth watching. I am just looking forward to the day when I can have one of these in my house and I can see the results myself. CNN would be sad then, since I would no longer need to watch. I wrote about a similar display back in the 2004 elections.
