Storms cut power, snap trees, topple trucks across region | STLtoday. Last night was one of the worst storms in history in our are. I remember a tornado that hit Edwardsville when I was little and this was just as bad as that. Below is a picture of the radar as it had just moved past our house. I still have no power at home and do not know when it will be restored. It is very hot at home today and I was glad I could come to work.

Arena Will Step Down | USA World Cup Team Blog. This is good news I think. It is time for some new blood in the USA. I thank Arena for a great term of coaching but I wish the team would move on and become even more productive. I would like to see a Cup in my lifetime hoisted by the US of A.

Anybody Got Duct Tape? | Wired News. It appears that everything is going really smoothly up there with the Space Shuttle. They are having lots of fun joking around and the mood is entirely light. NASA has accomplished lots of tasks and they are preparing to return to the ground.

The TV Final | NYTimes. There is a story on the NY Times World Cup Blog that states, "The U.S. TV viewing audience for the World Cup final was equal to that of the NCAA basketball final and the World Series and higher than for the NBA finals." It goes on to say, "the audience for the whole match was roughly the same size here in the US as it was in Britain." You can us that now to fight people who say we do not watch soccer here.

Match 63: The Germans were able to pull off the third place victory with a 3-1 defeat of Portugal. With help from two goals from Schweinsteiger, Germany was able to control the game and fend off the attack of Portugal. This was a great game and a fitting end for the host nation. They will not be going home empty handed.

Match 62: France was able to pull off the defeat of Portugal 1-0. France will now move on to the final to face Italy for the World Cup 2006. France still looked good and was able to control most of the game. France was able to capitalize on a PK in the 33rd minute. Zidane was able to finish and France hung on to the one point lead to advance. This sets up a great final with Italy having won 3 times and France once.

Match 61: With 2 goals in the second overtime, Italy defeats Germany 2-0. Italy will now advance to the final game on Sunday. I have to give credit to Italy they played well to pull off the win. It looked like Germany was content to send this to PKs. I am disappointed as I expected Germany to take home the Cup this year.

Match 60: Wow what a game. If anyone was to send Brazil home early it was going to be the French. Well they did it. France defeated Brazil 1-0 on a nice ball from Zidane to Henry. This was a great game that France controlled and kept Brazil from playing in. Well this cup has been full of surprises. Now France takes on Portugal in the semi-final.

Match 59: This was another nail-biter. England held Portugal 0-0 till the end of regulation and through overtime despite being a man down. Then it went into PKs and the Portugal keeper was able to save two and send Portugal on to the next match. Portugal defeats England 3-1 on PKs.

Match 58: This was a magnificent showing by the Italians. They defeat Ukraine 3-0. Toni was able to put the game away with two goal. Ukraine was just outplayed in this match. I look forward to the next match with Germany v Italy.

Match 57: In a brilliant match Germany defeats Argentina to move ahead to the Semi-Finals. Argentina struck first and then Germany tied the match in the second half 1-1. It stayed this score all through regular time and over time. This lead to the penalty kick shootout. Lehmann came up big for the Germans and saved two PKs. This was the decider as Germany was able to beat Ukraine 4-2 in PKs.
