Mixed reviews for illegal file-sharing on campus | cnet.com. "Congress passes the Higher Education Act 2008 with provisions that require universities and colleges to deter illegal file-sharing. A tech-education group doesn't like it, but Hollywood does." This is mixed news for me. They did modify the bill slightly so this is a better version. I still wish it would not pass but the President has the bill now. At least he is in China at the Olympics so it might not be signed for a while.

I found this link to Open GPS Tracker and thought it was an interesting project. I would not mind trying to build one of these sometime. It seems like it could be useful for quite a few things. I would put one on my four wheeler. That would be neat.

Free Wireless Internet For the Masses: Another Dumb Scheme From Washington | gizmodo.com I have to agree that this is an unlikely proposal, but I still think it is quite interesting. This would be fast enough to be usable for causal browsing and would be great if it was available to all. We need more politicians at least trying with new ideas like this.

I broke out the CueCat today. I am trying to start a new project to catalog all my DVDs so I can know what I have. I can not believe the amount that I have already accumulated. Amber and I sold all of our VHS about three years ago. Since then we have slowly been buying and receiving DVDs we wanted. So I searched the web and came across two PHP apps that do catalogs, OpenDB and VCD-db. I think I am going to try OpenDB first. Here are some more links for info on the Cuecat. I have modified one of mine so it is a plain barcode reader.

Windows Vista Voice Recognition | Chris Pirillo. Wow this is the best demonstration of voice recognition I have ever seen. This is the luck I have found on using voice recognition all the time. It usually takes more time to correct the mistakes then to just type it in the first place.

EFF: Don't Use Google Desktop | eWeek. Well the latest version of Google Desktop Search has a feature in it that lets you share files with other computers. This will copy those files to the servers at Google. This seems to be quite a concern as you do not know who will have access to them. Beware.
