I have been around. I bet you have noticed not much posting on the blog recently. I am having trouble with Marsedit , my blog posting software, and Blogger. The two are not getting along at the moment. I have not had time to dedicate to fixing this. It has been really busy at work and home. I hope to get back to regular posting soon.

Happy Winter Solstice. For those of you that suffer from the blues take cheer in the fact that today is the shortest day of the year. From here on out the days will grow in daylight time. This is also the start of Winter. Brrrr.

Our power was restored to our house yesterday afternoon. It was quite a humbling time dealing with no power. You just can not realize how much electricity we have become accustom to until you are without it for five days. It was quite an event. It was amazingly nice to take a hot shower this morning.

Wednesday, December 06, 2006

Well once again Amber and I find ourselves without power. A large winter storm with ice and snow came through the St. Louis area on Thursday 30 November 2006. We lost power at about 11:00 PM and have not had any since. Luckily Amber's Uncle had lent us a generator last summer when the power was out. We still had that at our house so we wired up the furnace and the refrigerator. We have been using a small electric burner to cook on and have been doing ok. We at least have heat and that is the major thing. The only item of connivence that we are sorely missing is hot water. It is just inconvenient to not be abel to take a shower when you want. Hopefully we will have power restored shortly.

Renovated Columbus School gets high marks at open house. I spent five years of grade school in this school. I can tell you first hand that it was in dire need of renovations. For as long as I can remember the third floor of this building was condemned. It is the oldest school in the district and I am very glad that they have given it some attention.

Well I spent the day at home today. I had to be on the couch. On Saturday I stubbed my toe pretty bad and have not been walking well. I told Amber to pick up that binder she had on the floor but I stepped right into it. My toe still hurts and I have been icing it and keeping off it as much as possible. It will feel better soon.

Last night Amber and I went to Sears to pick out our new Lawn Tractor. It is a Poulan Pro 18 hp Briggs & Stratton with a 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor. It seems to be the best we could find, and at only $1199 it was a pretty good deal. We should get it delivered next Monday. I hope it shows up on time. Thanks Mom and Dad Cole for a great graduation present.

Whew! Well the weekend is over. It was long and short at the same time. I GRADUATED! It was a nice ceremony and did not take too terribly long. Amber, Sara, Brandi, Joel, Brad, Chazz, and my mom and grandparents were there. Then after that we all headed out to Amber's parents' house. We had everyone over and it was great fun. We would have had the party at our house but, go figure, it only takes Amber and me to plan an event and then we are surrounded by tornadoes. It only rained a little on the party itself, so all had a good time. We had about 30 people out. One of my favorite gifts, though I asked for none, was from David Kapp. He bought me a Lexar 128 Mb USB JumpDrive. It is really cool. Well thanks all who came and hope you had fun. We sure did.
PS. My Internet was down at my house ALL weekend do to power outages in Palmyra, IL from the severe storms in the area.

We are home from the dentist now. Amber is still numb but all went well. The snow is melting fast around here and we should not have any left by the weekend.

Labels:

Monday, February 17, 2003

All is well at the Cole household. Amber has had to visit the dentist lately. We have to go tomorrow. She will get all fixed up and then that will be good. I changed my break pads over the weekend. It was not too tough. All is going well. Keep in touch.

I had to go to the dentist today. Not much fun. I received two fillings and lots of numb mouth. I still can not talk well. Oh well, better than having my teeth rot out. It is snowing a little outside and we expect to get about 3 inches.

It has been a busy week. I went back to work on Monday and have been trying to get everything together for my last semester. I have been having all my requirements checked and re-checked to make sure I do not need to take any more classes. It has taken a little while to check with all the different departments. I am just now trying to make sure my minor requirements are met. If all checks out I am perfectly on schedule.

I enjoyed giving and receiving many gifts this Christmas. Some of my favorites are my The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Extended Edition) DVD set and Rudolph ornaments. I received many other gifts that would take too long to list. All are appreciated and will be used. Thanks J. Amber and I have been taking it easy so far and just messing around the house with my time off. We have no big plans for anything yet.

Christmas Eve. Well it is a WHITE Christmas for us this year. It started to snow about 10:00 AM and continued well into the night. All in all it looks like we will wake up to about 8 inches of the white stuff tomorrow. Amber and I enjoyed our traditional dinner with my parents and then trekked out into the weather to make it to Christmas Eve church services. All was well tonight. I wish all a merry Christmas and a great evening.

Well another night another power outage. I awake to a clock blinking 7:30. I figure, “well with the battery in the clock and the power outage, it must be about that time or a little later.” Well I go about my morning routine and pick up my pager and notice … IT IS 9:00 AM!!!! I am now officially very late for work. So I called my boss and told him I was running late. Oh well. C’est la vie.

Just got my grades for this semester. An A and a B. I am happy. Six more hours down and that much closer to my graduation. I also received my graduation report today and need to just take two more classes. Exactly as I expected. That is great news. Now I am signed up for the last two classes I need. Happy graduation to me.

I awaken this morning, still without heat, to find the house in utter darkness. The power is out. Great! And I have not even requested it yet. The plan is to install a new electrical service in the house now before the new furnace is installed. Oh well, Amber tells me the power was back on shortly after I left the house this morning. Another day another adventure.

Yesterday we took our holiday photo. Now we hope that we can get the cards out this week. Look for yours soon. We also took some time to set up some trees and decorations. It is a real hamper to not have a heater and time to spend decorating. We did get some shopping done this weekend and hopefully we will be close to done now.

My math final sucked. I hope to do well in the class though. Our furnace went out this weekend. Brrrr... cold. Well it has to be replaced now. At least the landlord is picking up the tab. Thanks Amber's parents. Only really bad news is that the installer is booked till after Christmas. Well we will be toasty with the borrowed kerosene heater for now. Amber and I are staying on the main floor. We are getting a new Comfortmaker gas furnace. It will be really nice since our old furnace was oil burning and was not efficient and smelled bad.

Today the school was visited by some folks from RedHat. It was a fun and exciting time for all. Here are some pictures for you. Sara came and attended the event with me. WE both had fun and got a free key chain. I asked some questions and got some answers. They were nice to stop by the school on the request of the Computer Association Of SIUE, or CAOS.

Also we were able, with the help of my brother, to get started on the ceiling. YEAH. We made a good start and should be able to get done this weekend. Post some pictures soon.

Well election day and we voted. Lots of people running uncontested. Voted mostly democratic. Wondering now if that makes me a democrat. Oh well. Only went there to vote for the school. Proposition E, which failed as usual, would have increased taxes and made better schools. Sorry mom could not pass it by myself but I tried.

More work done this weekend. We are getting close now. We put the final coat of mud on the drywall and will be trying to do some painting on it this week. Also we hope to hang the drop ceiling this weekend. We also installed Amber's decorative beams and finished up some wiring. We are making one more trip to Lowes tonight and hopeful can get everything we need to put the finishing touches on the shop. We are still hoping to be opening in the next couple weeks. I will keep you posted and get some more pictures up soon.

Lots of work completed this weekend. We were able to get all the ceiling supports in place. Amber completed insulating the front walls while I finished wiring in them. WE now need to put up the drywall covering the front and it will start looking really finished. I hope to finish wiring up the overhead lights this week or weekend. Then we can work out there longer. I must get them done soon as we will lose some daylight this weekend. Will keep you updated. Still promising to be open by this Thanksgiving.

This weekend was very busy. We went with our friends to the orchard to pick out pumpkins. It was their girls first time there. She was tired but had fun. Then we had four birthdays, both moms, Kort and Kaleb. We went to Kort and Sandy’s new house and watched Kaleb open gifts. It was nice. Then we worked a little on the shop this weekend and put the windows in the front and hung some rafters in the ceiling. We are heading tonight to pick out our ceiling tiles for the drop ceiling.

A little more work on the shop today. We hope to get the ceiling supports in this weekend. I will be very busy this weekend. I have to write a paper and complete a take home exam for my classes. This is part of the reason I have not posted in a while. We sort of missed the auroras earlier this week. We were planning on trying to see them. We had a very good visit with Brandi and her new bo this last weekend.

We just have to come up with some free time. HA. That is not going to happen soon. Amber’s friend Brandi is coming into town this weekend so I do not know what we will get done but we will try. We did manage to get a few pieces of paneling up this weekend so it is starting to get some closure. Updates to follow soon.

Sunday, September 22, 2002

Amber has been VERY upset lately as there has been very little progress on her shop. Well we worked some today and were able to get some of the paneling installed. Progress has really slowed down. I am still hopeful that we will be open soon. Well now we see that we need some more stuff from Lowes. Go figure. Oh well one more trip to the store.

It has been a busy weekend so far. This morning I went to the Grand Opening of the Apple Store West County in the newly renovated West County Westfield Mall. It was quite exciting. Phil and Sara, my sister-in-law, accompanied me. We had a blast seeing all the new Apple products. I am still in LOVE with the iPod and will get one someday. Also the next Mac that Amber and I purchase will be the new 17” flat panel iMac. It is really sweet. We also were able to see the 23” Apple Cinema High Definition flat panel display. It is HUGE. You can see two FULL pages of a document on screen at one time and READ them. I must have one at work. Someday :).

Next I came home and had to go to school to finish programming my robot. My partner and I were able to get it finished today. That is great since we present it on Monday. It should work well. We will see.

All is moving along. Seems I can only talk about the shop. Well that is about all we are up to at this time. We spent this morning putting up the front wall. Tomorrow we should finish up the wall and put the siding on. Then we can really get started on the inside. We have put up the main wall inside but we need to start on the ceiling supports and finishing the walls inside with drywall and paneling.

On another hand, we have ordered and received our setup to connect to a local high-speed wireless internet service provider. We ordered service from DTNspeed.net. We have to assemble and hook up the connection and we will be surfing at blazing speeds. The service uses 802.11b wireless networking. We are sure to be very happy campers at home now.

Always smoother the second time, well all went well and we now have two thirds of the concrete poured for our garage. I have now decided that my History of Math class sucks! I am going to try and transfer into a class about Algebraic Structures. It will be more math oriented and should be better for me. Well I was very late for my last day of class. Go figure! I was working on a VB program for work. I have been stuck trying to figure out how to change someone's password on a Windows server with VB. Oh well. Eventually I will figure it out. So that made me 30 minutes late for my last day of class and I had a quiz to take! I finished the quiz and think I did well. So after I got home amber and I went up to Shipman, IL to see a demo of DTNSpeedNet wireless Internet. When we arrived at the demo there was no power in the whole town! Can you believe it? So we went over to our friends Daryl and Leah's. Then we went up to Jerseyville, IL to go to State Street Antiques, Amber's idea. Amber bought some stuff and I was bored.
