AT&T scales back St. Louis Wi-Fi plan - Yahoo! News. It seems that AT&T has come to the same conclusion many others have, muni wi-fi is not going to work. I have been involved in planning a project at work that would do something similar and we are having the same problems described here. I would love to see a muni wi-fi project actually succeed, but there seems to be too many hurdles right now.

This well illustrated modification instruction set by Jamie M. allows you to run your WRT54G router without external power supply. You may think the trick is in somehow squeezing a battery pack inside. It's much better. A simple modification inside the router implements Power Over Ethernet (POE). You can power the router through the CAT5 cable.

Wi-Fi Crusader in $5 Router Giveaway | eWeek.com. This is a very interesting scenario for a new startup. I will have to watch this closely. I wonder what your ISP would say if you were to host one of these boxes.

T-Mobile first to bridge 3G, EDGE, GPRS, and WiFi | Computer Business Review. Nortel will supply T-Mobile with NexGen Wireless. We will wait and see what this will mean.
