AT&T scales back St. Louis Wi-Fi plan - Yahoo! News. It seems that AT&T has come to the same conclusion many others have, muni wi-fi is not going to work. I have been involved in planning a project at work that would do something similar and we are having the same problems described here. I would love to see a muni wi-fi project actually succeed, but there seems to be too many hurdles right now.

You may think the trick is in somehow squeezing a battery pack inside. It's much better. A simple modification inside the router implements Power Over Ethernet (POE). You can power the router through the CAT5 cable.

Wi-Fi Crusader in $5 Router Giveaway | eWeek.com. This is a very interesting scenario for a new startup. I will have to watch this closely. I wonder what your ISP would say if you were to host one of these boxes.
