Meet the Team
The goal of the staff of the office for Accessible Campus Community & Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) is to assist students who can benefit from higher education and support them in reaching their academic potential. The ACCESS office provides a comfortable transition from high school to the SIUE campus. Students are encouraged to frequent the ACCESS office and enjoy the opportunity to meet other students in a relaxing atmosphere.
Accommodation Support Professionals
Accommodation Support Professionals (ASP) are student employment positions that provide a variety of services in the ACCESS office. While providing peer guidance to students with disabilities in areas of college adjustment and achieving educational goals, ASPs also assist in the administration of in-person exams for students with testing accommodations in the testing center, and in situations where technology is unavailable or inappropriate, serve as a reader or scribe. ASPs also provide office administrative assistance answering and directing calls, responding to inquiries and triaging walk-in scenarios either by directing to appropriate staff or making referrals to campus resources such as Counseling Services, the Dean of Students, the Equal Opportunity, Access and Title IX office and other campus partners.
ACCESS Student Success Coaches
ACCESS Success Coaches (ASCs) work one-on-one to help students improve their academic strategies, develop effective study habits, and find school/life balance. Our ASCs also assist identified students with skills development in time management, executive functioning and learning styles; and identifying overall strategies for success. ACCESS will pair students identified as academically "at-risk" with a success coach, as well as proactively by request as part of the ongoing interactive process.
