Preparing for New Student Orientation
You may find the following information helpful as you prepare for New Student Orientation. Many of these items should be completed before you arrive:
- Activate your e-ID. If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at help@siue.edu or 618-650-5500.
- Submit your final official high school transcript with senior year grades and graduation date and official documents for transfer credit review if applicable. This includes college transcripts, advanced placement (AP) and/or international baccalaureate (IB) scores.

- Take placement assessments (if needed) BEFORE attending. You'll receive an email from Testing Services with more information and instructions to complete the assessments online. If you prefer to take the assessments in-person at SIUE, please schedule an appointment through this link for one of these dates prior to your NSO:
- April 7, 10, 20, 26 (reading/writing only), 27 (math only)
- May 1, 8, 19, 26
- Complete foreign language proficiency testing (if needed). Free language proficiency tests are available for French, German and Spanish. Tests take approximately 40 minutes, and are administered in the Foreign Language Training Center in Peck Hall, Room 2310. Based on exam scores, students are placed in the appropriate language course and may earn up to 16 credit hours. Please contact the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at 618-650-3510 for additional information.
- Submit the FAFSA.
- Provide proof of immunization prior to the first day of attendance. Please submit your records electronically at cougarcare.siue.edu (your secure health portal). Learn more about Health Service requirements.
- Finalize your housing plans.
