Overview
Student Government office open (Monday - Friday, 8am – 4:30pm) to serve the SIUE students.
Student Government represents undergraduate, graduate and professional students at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. It consists of two branches, Executive and Legislative, and its primary function is to serve as an advocate on student issues and voice students’ concerns about campus issues.

Hometown: Maryville, IL Year in School: Junior Major: Business Economics Vision for Student Government: Education doesn't just have to be your major, it's also the interests reflected by our Cougar Orgs. I want to have SG help the organizations accomplish that for it's members in a dynamic, flourishing way. Stop by the office and ask about my Penguin Initiative. Hobbies: As I'm writing this, I feel pretty confident that I'm going to finish reading War and Peace today. That took my about 7 years. There are a few books I want to write. I also spend time daydreaming about helping Maryville become more self sufficient and building up it's individual local identity. If you know anything about building a trolly, reach out. Oh, and playing chess.

Legislative
2023-2024 Legislative Branch
The legislative branch of Student Government consists of 35 senators elected by the Student Body during annual elections held during Spring Semester or appointed, pursuant to the Student Government Constitution. Two of these thirty five elected Senators are graduate students.; and two freshman senators are appointed during the Fall Semester.

Benjamin Cole, Freshman Senator Hometown: Moro, IL Year in School: Freshman Major: Physics Vision for Student Government: One thing people always say is, I wish I did that freshmen year. I plan on making sure no SIUE student will ever say that again. Getting the freshmen class involved and solving any issues that stand in our way is my main objective for the following year. College is an important transition in our lives, so nobody can be left behind, as it is our jobs to reach our full potential and push our peers to theirs. Hobbies: I like to stay busy from waking to bedtime. In my free time though, I love working out, doing any outdoor activities (expect climbing), being with family, talking to the residents at the nursing home I work at, 한국어를 공부하다, and many basic nerdy things. Year in School: Freshman Major: Business Administration Management and Data Analytics Vision for Student Government: As a Freshman Senator I hope to create an initiative that includes all freshman and allows them to socialize, making the transition to SIUE easier despite the class’ majors or current social groups. Hobbies: I enjoy being creative in all aspects weather it be with food and baking or with pen and paper or paints. I also enjoy working car shows to raise money for local charities with my friends and family as well as playing with my dachshund, Harley. Other campus involvement: As of now I am currently not involved in any other campus organization other than the Honors Program.

Rebecca Loftus, Senator for the School of Pharmacy Hometown: Granite City, IL Year in School: 2nd year of Pharmacy school Major: Pharmacy Vision for Student Government: "My primary reason for joining SG was to help the Pharmacy School and other graduate programs become more integrated with the happenings on main campus. It feels so separated; we often feel left out and that our voices are not heard. I hope that joining SG will allow me to be that voice for the Pharmacy students and help them feel like SIUE students instead of just Pharmacy students." In my own experience, coming from a homeschool, the first year can be full of culture shock and adjustment. Simply sharing a class with a dozen students is quite a change of pace. I hope to create an avenue for the voices of homeschoolers and other non-traditional students to be heard. And forge a path for this new Senate position."
