Traditions are an important part of any university, and here at SIUE, we have some amazing annual events for you to participate in. Some have been occurring for decades and some are new traditions. Regardless, we hope you take a moment to explore the annual events offered through the Kimmel Student Involvement Center and consider joining us this year for one or more of these programs!

Black Heritage Month
Black Heritage Month programs seek to honor and celebrate achievements and the history of the members in the Black Community through cultural, educational and social events throughout the month of February.

Cougar Welcome
Cougar Welcome takes place during the first two weeks of the fall semester. This tradition welcomes new students to the SIUE community and welcomes returning students. Through various programming efforts, students will begin to feel connected to the campus community and discover SIUE as their home away from home.

Homecoming
Homecoming is a great opportunity for students, faculty,staff and alumni to bond over their love of SIUE and share their Cougar Spirit. This week-long celebration offers all Cougars an opportunity to engage in some friendly competition and celebrate SIUE. Go Cougars!

SpringFest
SpringFest is a week-long celebration that takes place in April. SpringFest is a tradition that invites students to take part in celebrating the end of the year before completing finals and leaving for the summer.

Cougar Fest
This unique event allows our volunteer agencies and area merchants to come together and have time with students, staff and faculty all at once at the start of the Spring semester. Nearly 50 agencies are on hand to speak with the SIUE community about opportunities to volunteer, shop, bank, eat, live or work.

Volunteer Fair
SIUE invites regional nonprofit agencies to the campus for an opportunity to meet our students, staff and faculty. During the Fall Volunteer Fair non-profit organizations get a chance to share about the many different service and volunteer options available. The SIUE community has a chance to meet and engage with roughly 40-50 agencies learning more about the ways they can participate in civic engagement within the metro and surrounding areas.

Kimmel Leadership Awards
The Kimmel Leadership Awards celebrate students, faculty, staff, and community members who demonstrate excellence in leadership. Nominations open in February and the celebratory event takes place in late-April each year.

Family Weekend
Family Weekend is a fall tradition dedicated to all Cougar family members and provides students with a chance to express their gratitude and appreciation for those who have supported them. During the weekend, families have an opportunity to see where their students live and learn about the amazing opportunities available to students on campus. Activities are available for the entire family to enjoy.

Merchant Fair
The Merchant Fair is one of many welcome events at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. It is designed to connect students, faculty, and staff with area businesses, and to facilitate interaction between the campus and the local community.
