Alternative Spring Break
The Community Engagement Team in the Kimmel Student Involvement Center offers annual Alternative Spring Break trips that provide to the communities we serve significant assistance and empowerment, while giving the students involved substantial opportunities for self-development and service-based education.
Check back here for updates on our in-development Spring 2023 Alternative Spring Break. (There is no Alternative Spring Break trip for 2022.)
For now, read below to learn more about our Spring 2021 Alternative Spring Break trip:
In partnership with AMP Mission: St. Louis, this virtual alternative spring break experience offered a 3-Part Series to learn about poverty, race, and empowerment in the St. Louis and metro area. The Coronavirus pandemic had made service a significant challenge for many volunteers in the area. This experience offered virtual modules via zoom to discuss the history of poverty in St. Louis, the impact of race in the work of justice, and the need for empowering solutions.
Each part of the series involved group discussion, interactive learning components, and a modified service project led by a team member of AMP Mission: St. Louis.
All sessions held via Zoom included Closed Captions and the Community Engagement Team is dedicated to ensuring the accessibility of both its physical and virtual programs and events. For individuals needing auxiliary aids for communication or physical access accommodations contact ACCESS at 618-650-3726 or email myaccess@siue.edu in advance of your participation.
