#SpeechMatters 2024: Politics, Polarization and Perils On Campus
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is pleased to host viewing sessions of the sixth annual University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement #SpeechMatters Conference: Politics, Polarization and Perils On Campus.
According to the Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, “With campus expression issues splashed across the front page and debated in Congressional hearings, higher education has become increasingly embroiled in our nation’s polarized politics and discourse. The perils of this moment, from safeguarding speech and Title VI accountability to the targeted harassment of academics, are only compounded in an election year.”
The sixth annual conference on Thursday, April 18, will "delve into these subjects and explore current challenges and opportunities for learning, activism and engagement. Join legal experts, journalists and college and university leaders for a lively and dynamic half-day of discussion.”
Register to indicate which sessions to attend in-person with other campus community members. Plan on engaging with one another at the conclusion of sessions. Viewing sessions will take place in the MUC Missouri Room, MUC 2002.
You may also register independently with the conference if you are unable to attend the viewing sessions in the MUC.
For questions about the viewing please contact Lindy Wagner, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Excellence, Education and Development.
