Textbook Affordability: Cengage Unlimited Faculty Champions
The Textbook Affordability Incentive Program creates financial incentives for teaching faculty (including non-tenure track faculty) to utilize e-books and digital courseware that leads to the elimination of a physical textbook or single-use digital courseware expense and/or reduces physical inventory, therefore, leading towards reducing the cost of textbooks and publisher-issued instructional materials.
This fall, SIUE is launching the Cengage Unlimited platform, creating the opportunity to reduce recurring textbook and/or digital courseware expenses. Cengage Unlimited is an affordable course materials subscription that includes access to every Cengage online homework platform and all textbooks across disciplines and more. It offers access to everything in one place, for one price, on day one.
Faculty, who wish to become champions, will become experts about the Cengage Unlimited platform. The primary activities in this role will be focused on educating faculty about Cengage Unlimited materials and resources, raising awareness of the incentive program and the variety of resources available. Individuals should have some previous experience and/or knowledge about Cengage.
- Number of Positions: It is anticipated that 3-4 individuals will be selected as Faculty Champions
- Stipend: $2,500 award per faculty champion, per year (June 30, 2024 end date)
- Deliverable: Faculty champions will dedicate a minimum of 75 hours of direct support to the implementation of the Cengage Unlimited platform at SIUE. Incentive participants will submit a final activity report summarizing their activities, opportunities, challenges, and impact
- Payment: Awarded upon submission and review of the final report of activity demonstrating achievement of Faculty Champion Expectations
Suggested activities include:
- Conducting one-on-one sessions with peers via Zoom or phone
- Assisting new Cengage Unlimited users link their e-books to Blackboard
- Conducting online or on-campus peer to peer workshops
- Participating in campus implementation team meetings
- Presenting at department, governance, and/or other campus meetings about Cengage Unlimited and its resources
How to Participate
Individuals interested in serving as Faculty Champions should submit a letter of interest to sakoert@siue.edu. Letters of interest will be reviewed, and selected participants will receive notification by September. Payment will be completed upon submission of a final report summarizing the completion of the deliverables above.
Review and acceptance of submissions will begin on September 1, 2023 and continue as funds allow. Submit a letter of interest by September 20, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
