After getting a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Gretchen Arnold knew she wanted to continue her education at SIUE, so she decided to pursue her MPA degree. “The staff and the experiences I obtained during my undergrad were instrumental in choosing to further my education at SIUE and I have not been disappointed with the experience I have received from the graduate school.” Arnold said. Arnold plans on working in the public sector with local or state governments.

Currently, Gretchen is doing an internship with the City of Highland, Illinois. Arnold has been given the opportunity to see how several departments work both together to help benefit a community along with being able to see new developments come into and benefit the community. “The internship experience has also opened my eyes to areas of government that I would have overlooked prior to starting my internship,” Arnold said.

Arnold says that anyone who is in the PAPA program should feel comfortable reaching out to the faculty with questions or problems because they are supportive, helpful, and will do anything they can to help students achieve their goals. “I love that the PAPA staff really care about their students,” said Arnold, “I have called and emailed staff with numerous questions and never once did I feel that I was a burden to them.”
