Two SIUE Political Science Professors Discuss Resilience to Domestic Terrorism in Southern Illinois with Riverbender.com
Riverbender.com published an article previewing the upcoming presentation, “Building Community Resilience to Radicalization to Violence” by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Laurie Rice, PhD, professor of political science and Suranjan Weeraratne, PhD, associate professor of political science. The event will be hosted by Edwardsville Public Library, Monday, January 22, 6 p.m.
According to Rice and Weeraratne, the community briefing will cover the current threat of domestic Terrorism in Southern Illinois and strategies to keep communities safe.
As reported in the article, “Weeraratne and Rice became interested in this topic after noticing an increase in ‘ideologically-motivated violence’ in the U.S., Rice said. They received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships, which allowed them to conduct surveys throughout southern Illinois about radicalization.”
