Schedule Your Advising Appointment
Upon admission to SIUE, all students are required to meet with an academic advisor to discuss interests, goals and course scheduling. We encourage you to attend Transfer Orientation, which includes academic advising. If you are unable to attend the program, please schedule your academic advising appointment by contacting the Office of Academic Advising at advising@siue.edu. For additional information about advising at SIUE, please visit the Office of Academic Advising website.
If you hold an AA, AS, or bachelor’s and you meet requirements for the proposed major indicated on your application for admission, you have been declared directly into your chosen major. Please contact the major department for an advisement appointment.
Once you've been advised, we encourage you to register for classes as soon as possible.
SIUE students also have access to Degree Works to help stay on track to graduate. Degree Works is an easy-to-read degree audit and course recommendation tool featuring real-time progress toward your degree, GPA calculators and “what if” scenarios for new majors/minors.
Placement Testing Information
Transfer students who have attempted at least 16 semester hours of credit elsewhere and completed the equivalent to English 101 or English 102 at SIUE with a grade of C or above do not need to take University placement tests in reading and writing. Transfer students who have not have completed an intermediate algebra course equivalent to AD 095 at SIUE with a grade of C or above will need to take the University mathematics placement test if the intended program of study requires MATH 120: College Algebra or above. If the minimum required subscores on the ACT/SAT have been achieved, this can suffice for college level placement in lieu of placement testing. The subscores will not be used for an ACT/SAT test date that is five years or older. Visit the placement testing website for more information, including minimum ACT/SAT subscore requirements.
Language Proficiency Testing
Free language proficiency tests take up to 40 minutes and are available for French, German and Spanish. Proficiency tests are taken by computer in the Foreign Language Training Center located in Peck Hall, Room 2310. Based on their exam scores, students are placed in an appropriate language course and may earn up to 16 semester hours of credit.
For more information, call the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) at 618-650‑3510.
