Discipline(s): All
The FAA has an app for recreational flyers, to help show where you can and cannot fly with interactive maps. The app is called B4UFLY and can be found in the App Store, Google Play store, or as a desktop version.
Some key features of the app include:
- A clear “status” indicator that informs the operator whether it is safe to fly or not.
- Informative, interactive maps with filters.
- Information about controlled airspace, special use airspace, critical infrastructure, airports, national parks, military training routes, and temporary flight restrictions.
- The ability to check whether it is safe to fly in different locations by searching for a location or moving the location pin.
- Links to other FAA drone resources and regulatory information.
More information on the app can be found here.
Please keep in mind, that while this app provides FAA airspace features and guidelines, it may not reflect a site’s individual restrictions on drone use.
As a reminder, if you want to fly a drone for recreation on SIUE’s campus, you are restricted to the model airplane field and must fill out the drone flight application that can be found here.
