Educational Field Trip
Black Scholar Experience students will participate in a field trip to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio during the semester they are enrolled in FAME or GAME.
To date, nearly 500 SIUE students have traveled to the nationally-recognized African American historical museum, which is a Smithsonian affiliate.
Via the field trip, scholars will have an opportunity to fully participate in and embrace both education and culture. This pedagogical technique allows the students to broaden their horizons, and more importantly, to digest the fact that they are not alone in their struggles to understand and appreciate their cultural past. By visiting this esteemed museum, students understand the most potent and effective pedagogical philosophy: combining insightful academics with multiple values of cultural exploration.
