Dr. Joe Weber, Emeritus Professor
Dr. Weber received his B.S. in Art from Eastern Illinois University, a M.S. in Art Education from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Louis University. He attended the School of the Chicago Art Institute for additional studies in graduate painting and art history. For ten years he taught art in the public schools and was a consultant to several school districts on art programming. At SIUE he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Art Education and served as area head of the Art Education program for thirty years. He is credited with the development of the M.A. in Art Therapy degree at SIUE. His paintings have been exhibited in juried and invitational national exhibitions. Dr. Weber has written and produced many articles and videos on Art Education and a contributing author to Beyond the Academy produced by the College of Arts and Sciences, SIUE and author of Everywhere by Zephyr Press, a resource text. He has worked in the areas of art education , historic preservation and preservation education and has received commendation from the Illinois Art Education Association for outstanding contributions to Art Education, received the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award from the Illinois Humanities Council for work in preservation, recognition from the Illinois Association of Historic Preservation Commissions State of Illinois for his service to the local historical preservation commission, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois State Historical Society for work in historic preservation education and preservation projects.
