Admission Standards
CODES is a selective program designed for students who are:
- A first-generation college student, Black, Latinx, and/or Pell-eligible
- Interested in research and active learning
- Committed to the community and ready to take action
Rather than requiring a specific test score or GPA, CODES uses a set of admissions standards that evaluate a student’s commitment to the community and level of motivation in arenas of their life within and beyond the classroom. The application for admission to CODES is a supplemental form students complete and submit after submitting their FAFSA and general application for admission to SIUE, including a video or written essay about their interest in the program.
How to apply
Applications are now closed for the Fall 2024 cohort.
- Apply to SIUE
- Complete the supplemental CODES application which includes a written or video essay about your interest in the program
- File the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available later in December
- Watch for information about registering for New Student Orientation which is mandatory for all first-year students
Late Entry to Pathway
Although the CODES Pathway uses a cohort model with a chronological completion process, students may request acceptance after their first semester, and will be asked to complete an orientation with CODES faculty and students prior to entry if accepted.
