#GivingTuesday Continues to Grow
SIUE received more than $9,000 from over 80 donors as part of the annual #GivingTuesday campaign, quadrupling the funds raised since its first year of participation. In 2014, $1,980 was received from 18 donors.
A global philanthropy initiative, #GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages giving early in the holiday shopping season. The effort, which is held the Tuesday immediately following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, provides a platform for organizations to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local and global challenges.
“During this special campaign, we encouraged individuals, local businesses and organizations, and community members to contribute to the SIUE Foundation, and advance the University’s mission of shaping a changing world,” said Rachel Stack, vice chancellor for University Advancement and CEO of the SIUE Foundation.
The success of #GivingTuesday plays an important role to the SIUE Foundation. Gifts made through the Foundation help meet the needs of the University and its students by providing support through scholarships and to academic units, the Elijah P. Lovejoy Library, faculty research and retention, athletics, and student activities.
SIUE joined a large number of organizations, including Google, Microsoft, UNICEF and the Case Foundation in the global collaborative efforts to improve communities in Edwardsville and beyond, transforming how people think about, talk about, and participate in giving to the charities and causes they support.
