Mission, Values and Vision
Counseling Services is committed to aiding students in the maintenance of their mental health. Counseling providers offer short-term assistance for students with personal, developmental, and academic concerns.
Our Vision
We aim to cultivate multiculturally-centered, ecological, and trauma-informed didactic, clinical, and policy development practices to improve the health, academic outcomes, adult functioning, and career trajectories of ALL learners at the University.
Our Mission
We accomplish these goals by offering mental health services to the SIUE campus community through direct clinical services rendered to its students, consultation with its faculty/staff, and facilitation of outreach that seeks to educate and enrich all members of our community through the following objectives:
- To deliver a multi-level set of evidence-based clinical services
- To create a University-wide culture of mental health awareness and wellness
- To foster an awareness of mental health-related campus and community resources
- To reduce mental health stigma by promoting self-care and help-seeking behaviors
- To build a campus community of trained individuals who can recognize and respond to students and peers in crisis
Our Values
Counseling Services values and maintains the highest professional ethical standards in fostering psychological well-being and development. We value integrity, openness, cooperation and collegiality. We appreciate and respect diversity and individual differences.
Our Training
Counseling Services is a training site for master's and doctoral level therapists. These trainees are required to video record their sessions for quality control and training purposes ONLY. These recordings are destroyed in a timely manner and never become a part of the student's counseling record.
