The IUR assists the University, faculty researchers, and the community with research needs. The flow chat shows where the IUR fits in the University. The University has three main tasks Teaching, Research, and Service. It falls under the Research Branch. Research conducted with the help of the IUR comes in three forms. The IUR's connection to "Internal Faculty Research" is an essential part of the Urban Scholar initiative. This strives to help faculty find and apply for external grants. "Applied Research" constitutes the IUR's efforts reach out to the community. Common "Applied Research" initiatives include helping local municipalities manage their grant evaluations or facilitating strategic plans for various advocacy groups.
