Where to Start
The Office of First-Year and Transitional Advising (OFTA) serves as the primary point of contact for academic advising for first-year, exploratory, and transitioning undergraduate students at SIUE. We support students with academic planning, major exploration, and successful progression toward graduation.
Whether you are a newly admitted first-year student, transfer student, or a current SIUE student navigating an academic transition, OFTA is here to assist you in developing a clear and achievable plan of study and connect you to resources.
The Advisement Process
All incoming first-year students, transfer students with less than 30 credit hours at time of admissions, exploratory and international undergraduate students will receive advisement through the First Year Advising, located in the Student Success Center, Suite 1220.
The office is open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Students who have declared a major or transfer/returning students with 30+ credit hours will receive advisement through their major department, college, or school.
All students can use Starfish to access their success network, check their advisor’s availability, and find contact information.
