Welcome to SIUE! We understand that coming to a new country and navigating an unfamiliar education system can be both exciting and challenging. The Office of First-Year and Transitional Advising is here to support international students as you adjust to life and learning at SIUE.

Our Commitment

We know that adapting to a new culture and academic system can be overwhelming. Our goal is to provide personalized guidance, resources, and support so you can succeed academically, socially, and personally. Our advisors are here to answer questions, clarify expectations, and connect you to the resources you need.

Step 1: Advisement

International students are assigned an academic advisor who will guide you through:

  • Understanding the U.S. higher education system
  • Navigating degree requirements and course registration
  • Maximizing transfer credit or prior coursework (if applicable)
  • Connecting with campus resources, including tutoring, career services, and student organizations

Step 2: International Student Orientation

SIUE offers a special orientation program for international students. This program introduces:

  • Academic expectations and registration processes
  • Campus services and support networks
  • Cultural adjustment strategies and immigration guidance
