The questions below are ones frequently asked by School of Nursing faculty and/or undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students in regard to the portfolios required as a component of their programs. For solutions to issues with incomplete portfolios, consult the Partial Portfolio Instructions page. For additional information on the portfolios, access the main portfolio resource page.
"How do I organize my files in Blackboard's My Content area?"
Each level of student is required to have different folders and documents in their portfolios. Directions for creating these folders are available in the setup instructions linked below. Steps 1 through 4 focus on creating these folders.
Detailed setup instructions for each student group are available below. Steps 5 and 6 focus on creating the portfolio.
In the My Content area of Blackboard, click the Portfolios link in the left navigation area and select My Portfolios.
"How do I add files to my portfolio?"Over the course of their programs, students will be required to add documents to the folders in their My Content areas. Once in the desired folder, students will need to click the Upload button from the menu bar and select the Upload Files option. In the upper right corner of that page, select the link for "Single Files" and use the Browse button to locate and upload the desired file.
Additional information about adding files to Bb (including using the Bb Drive application) is available from the ITS Bb resource page.
"How do I share a portfolio?"To share the portfolio with School of Nursing mentors:
"My instructor can't see my portfolio. How do I fix this?"
The instructions above are the only ones that will allow faculty members to view students portfolio. Some faculty mistakenly tell students to share their portfolio documents by altering the Permissions option for the folders in the My Content area. When students share files and folders in this manner, faculty members report that they "cannot see the portfolio." In order to share a portfolio so that faculty members can view it properly, students follow the directions listed above.
"My instructor can see my portfolio but s/he reports one or more of the links do not work. How do I fix this?
There is a known issue in Blackboard that cropped up after the upgrade to Service Pack 10 in December 2012. Newly created navigational items appear as plain text to those with whom the portfolio has been shared, rather than as links. Follow these steps to fix the problem:
In the My Content area of Blackboard, click the Portfolios link in the left navigation area and select Received Portfolios.
