ITSpotlight is designed to keep the campus up to date on ITS activities and services.
The Annual Sloan Consortium International Conference on Online Learning will be held on November 20 - 22, 2013. SIUE is streaming several of the conference sessions in the ITS Training Room in the lower level of Lovejoy Library (LB 0033b).
For times and descriptions of the sessions being streamed, please visit: http://www.siue.edu/its/idlt/events/

Blackboard course shell must be requested online by choosing the appropriate option under "Blackboard Faculty Forms" at http://www.siue.edu/its/bb.
Remember that all newly created courses are set to be "unavailable" at the time of their creation and cannot be seen by your students. When you deem your course is ready for your students to see, you must make it available. If you have any questions about requesting a course, please contact ITS at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Blackboard will be upgraded in late December. Several core Blackboard tools (including assignments and assessments) will be amended and additional features will also be added via a number of new service packs. ITS will issue regular updates to keep the campus community informed of the upgrade and to highlight the new and amended components.
Please note that the upgrade will not affect content you have saved in current or prior Blackboard courses. Any work you are doing now - such as building course shells for next semester or adjusting content for an existing course - will remain after the upgrade.
In preparation for the upgrade the Blackboard system will need to be taken offline. The Blackboard outage is planned to begin on Wednesday, December 18th with work scheduled to be completed by Friday, December 20th. On that date, the upgraded system will be available to faculty and students.
For additional information, please visit http://www.siue.edu/its/bb/upgrades.shtml.
As ITS completes the Blackboard upgrade in December, students and faculty will need to plan to update licensed Respondus products to assure full functionality with the current version of Blackboard at the start of the spring 2014 semester.
Students in courses where faculty are administering tests that require LockDown browser will need to update to the latest versions of LockDown Browser. Users must be updated to at least:
ITS will set a Minimum Date in the LockDown Browser profile to prompt students and faculty to update LockDown Browser on their personal computers.
For additional information about updating Respondus products, please contact ITS at email@example.com.
Increasingly, academic textbook publishers are developing and offering web-based services to accompany their textbooks. That content may be added in a variety of ways from simply adding a Web Link to an external site, to choosing the appropriate publisher content from the Assessments, Tools and/or Publisher Content contextual drop down menu in any content area.
If you choose to use publisher content in your Blackboard course, please note: The role of ITS with regard to support of publisher content does not extend beyond the uploading of a course cartridge or the installation of a building block. Any technical or support issues encountered after this become the responsibility of the faculty member, in conjunction with his or her publisher sales and/or service representative.
