School of Nursing Student Portfolios
Partial Portfolio Instructions

The scenarios below relating to partially completed portfolios are ones that frequently occur during portfolio support encounters with School of Nursing faculty and/or undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students. If you have questions not addressed by the scenarios listed below, consult the School of Nursing Portfolio FAQ page or contact ITS at (618) 650-5500 or via email at ftc_help@siue.edu. For additional information on the portfolios, access the main portfolio resource page.

Scenario 1: My Content area has not been configured and portfolio has not been created.

Scenario 2: My Content area *has* been configured but portfolio has not been created.

Scenario 3a and 3b: My Content area has been configured and portfolio has been created but (a) the portfolio has not been shared or (b) the sharing process has been done incorrectly.

Scenario 4: The portfolio has been shared correctly, but the person with whom it has been shared reports that one or more of the links in the portfolio is not working.

Scenario 5: For a Nursing student who had material in Bb 8, the My Content area material was and transferred from the old (Bb 8) to the new (Bb 9) system, but the portfolio has not been created.

Scenario 6: For a Nursing student who had material in Bb 8, the My Content area was not transferred from the old (Bb 8) to the new (Bb 9) system and the portfolio was not created.

Scenario 1

Information on the School of Nursing portfolios is located at:

http://www.siue.edu/its/bb/students/tutorials_nursing.shtml

On this page, select the instructions relative to your level (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral). Follow these instructions to structure the folders in your Blackboard My Content area, create your portfolio, and share that portfolio with your mentor.

Scenario 2

Although the folders have been created in the My Content area in Bb, the portfolio has not yet been created.

To begin, access the portfolio instructions located at:

http://www.siue.edu/its/bb/students/pdf/info_nurs_portfolio_Bb_9_undergraduate.pdf

On this handout, begin on page 2 at Step 5 and complete Steps 5, 6, and 7. Then the portfolio will be finished and shared with the appropriate mentor(s).

Scenario 3a

To share the portfolio with a School of Nursing mentor:

  1. On the My Portfolios page, hover over the portfolio title and click the drop-down arrow.
  2. Select Share from the drop-down menu.
  3. Hover the mouse over the Share With button and select the Users option.
  4. In the Choose Users section, enter the e-ID(s) (ex: jdoe) of the professor(s). Do not include the @siue.edu extension. Separate multiple user names with commas.
  5. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to complete sharing the portfolio.

Scenario 3b

Instead of sharing the portfolio, the student is inadvertently sharing the folders in the My Content area of Bb.  If this is the case, sharing the portfolio is a relatively simple process.  To share the portfolio with the appropriate School of Nursing mentor(s):

Scenario 4

There is a known issue in Blackboard that cropped up after the upgrade to Service Pack 10 in December 2012.  Newly created navigational items appear as plain text to those with whom the portfolio has been shared, rather than as links.   Follow these steps to fix the problem:

  1. On the My Portfolios page, hover over the portfolio title and click the drop-down arrow.
  2. Select Link Checker from the drop-down menu.
  3. Check the box in front of the folder(s) on this page. Click the Repair button.
  4. Click the OK button to confirm that repairs can be made to the links.

Scenario 5

Although the semester-level folders have been migrated from the previous Bb system to the currently-utilized Bb 9, the student has not yet created a portfolio. To begin, access the portfolio instructions located at:

http://www.siue.edu/its/bb/students/pdf/info_nurs_portfolio_Bb_9_undergraduate.pdf

On this handout, you will need to begin on page 2 at Step 5 and complete Steps 5, 6, and 7. Then your portfolio will be finished and shared with your mentor.

Scenario 6

Student portfolios were not automatically transferred from Bb 8 to Bb 9.1. A handout was been created that provides detailed instructions on how to complete the process. Download the document at:
