Blackboard is a learning management system that can support a variety of pedagogical needs. For example, some SIUE faculty use Blackboard to enhance face-to-face courses with online learning materials, such as text and video content, while others use it to hold class discussions, accept and grade assignment submissions, or facilitate an entire course online. Thousands of SIUE students use Blackboard every semester, in their online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses.
If you would like more information on the capabilities of Blackboard or how you might use it to meet your instructional needs, please contact ITS at email@example.com or during normal business hours at 618-650-5500. We are located in LB 0005, in the basement of Lovejoy Library.
Important Change to Course Request Process:
As of Spring 2017, every academic course listed in CougarNet/Banner will have a corresponding course shell created in Blackboard. These are automatically created three months prior to the start of the upcoming semester (ex: October for SP17 courses). Classes added to Banner after the initial course creation will have a course shell created in Blackboard by the following day. Courses are made unavailable to students upon creation. Courses will only become available when faculty make it available. Read more about how Blackboard course shells are created.
Note: Faculty should still submit a request form if they would like cross-listed courses or courses with multiple sections merged into one shell.
