Blackboard

Welcome

Blackboard is a learning management system that allows students and faculty to share and engage with learning materials and to communicate with each other in a virtual learning environment. Blackboard is extremely flexible and offers many different capabilities. Faculty members can use a Blackboard site to simply enhance a course with online handouts and electronic reserves or to deliver a completely online course where the students never meet face-to-face. Thousands of SIUE students use Blackboard every semester with their courses. A popular feature is the online Grade Center, which allows them to keep up-to-date with their progress in each course.

As part of the commitment to improving teaching and learning, SIUE upgraded from Blackboard 8 to Blackboard 9.1 at the start of the Fall 2012 semester.  The Blackboard 9.1 interface is different from Blackboard 8 although most of the tools and functionality should feel familiar to current Blackboard 8 users.  Click here to access overview details on the Bb 9.1 system.  The archived version (Bb 8) that has been utilized for Summer 2012 and previous semesters is available at: http://bb8.siue.edu/ and the pilot version (of Bb 9.1) that has been utilized during the Summer 2012 semester to develop sandboxes is available at: http://bbpilot.siue.edu/. NOTE: Bb 8 and Bb Pilot systems will inaccessible after July 1, 2013. Users are strongly encouraged to remove their content from these systems as soon as possible.
