Demonstrates professionalism and effective collaboration.
As part of the Educational Technologies Program I am required to take IT571, which focuses on the collaboration with another teacher in technology implementation in a particular subject. I chose Social Studies and used a WebQuest to inform 6th grade students about the Neolithic Period. The Social Studies teacher and I had an opportunity to collaboratively create a technology based, social studies unit with a constructivist approach learning environment. The students enjoyed the lessons and the technology enriched the social studies lessons.

Professionalism is very important in the field of instructional technology. Being a role model for the students and preparing them for the 21st Century is the main goal. For this to occur it takes the teacher to ensure the students are able to use different programs appropriately. The teacher also needs to demonstrate the flexibility of the use of different programs. When creating units, I encourage myself to try different programs and explain why the particular program is needed. As a professional, it is important to understand the needs of the students and the interests. Using different programs focused on the student needs and interests will help to build units that prepare student s for the 21st Century.
