Many issues arise when issues of the
environment and its degradation are linked to various kinds of new
development. There are many not-for-profits whose primary purpose is
to advocate on behalf of the environment when new development is
proposed. This is a common occurrence in suburban economic
development which in a way aids urban redevelopment. Many of these
non-profit organizations work to protect green space found in suburban
areas forcing company to look to downtown areas for existing structures or
development areas. In most context the work sprawl is used to define
the environmental effects of urban abandonment or of suburban development.
