After High School Options

Previous Next
This website is a huge proponent of teens
attending a 4-year college/university. However,
there has to be recognition of the fact that not
everyone is ready for a 4-year college.

Not ready, for many reasons—finances, academic record, motivation, not yet sure what they want to do. Fortunately, there are very good alternatives:

Two-Year College Degree
An alternative/stepping stone to a bachelor’s degree.

Trade/Technical School
Many of today’s jobs require at least an associate’s degree. However, there are millions of jobs that require specialized training versus a two-/four year degree.

Full-Time Work
A teen could also launch their career immediately after high school. It’s a big step because, typically… full-time work after high school is low-paying service/retail type jobs.

Gap Year
An exploratory phase may take your teen through a period known as the gap year. It’s often justified by the fact that a teen gains a better perspective after a brief but productive break from school.
