THE ENVIRONMENT

The march of development has created threats to the earth’s air, water and land.  Smog, airborne lead, acid rain, ozone depletion and global warming are leading factors in the demise of air quality.  Migrating chemicals, solid waste and toxic waste have caused groundwater and land pollution.  Deforestation, which results in soil erosion and flooding, erratic supplies of freshwater and reduced rainfall, is on the rise in developing nations.  Pollution, pesticides and artificial substances in food and other products may lead to increased incidences of cancer.  Solutions to these environmental problems include recycling, substitution and reducing needs.
