INTERNATIONAL GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS (IGOs)

International Monetary Fund (IMF)
IMF Home page with links to News, About the IMF, Fund Rates, IMF Publications, What's New, Standards and Codes, Country Information and featured topics.  The IMF is an international organization of 182 member countries, established to promote international monetary cooperation, exchange stability, and orderly exchange arrangements; to foster economic growth and high levels of employment; and to provide temporary financial assistance to countries under adequate safeguards to help ease balance of payments adjustment.

The United Nations (UN)
This is the official Web Site of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  Here you will find daily UN News, UN Documents and Publications, UN Overview information, UN Conference information, Photos, and other UN information resources.  The UN has four purposes: to maintain international peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations, to cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights, and to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations. 

The World Bank
The World Bank Group offers loans, advice, and an array of customized resources to more than 100 developing countries and countries in transition.

World Health Organization  (WHO)
The objective of WHO is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.  Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

World Trade Organization (WTO)
Sections on trade & environment, trade & poverty.  The WTO is the only international body dealing with the rules of trade between nations.  At its heart are the WTO agreements, the legal ground-rules for international commerce and for trade policy.
 
 

NON-GOVERNMENTAL 
ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs)

Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. In particular, Amnesty International campaigns to free all prisoners of conscience; ensure fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; abolish the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of prisoners; end political killings and "disappearances"; and oppose human rights abuses by opposition groups.  Activities range from public demonstrations to letter-writing, from human rights education to fundraising concerts, from individual appeals on a particular case to global campaigns on a particular issue.

Doctors Without Borders
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical relief agency aiding victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and others who lack health care due to geographic remoteness or ethnic marginalization. 

Greenpeace International
Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organization that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and to force solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future. 

Heifer Project International
Our efforts are dedicated to the sustainability of providing food- and income-producing animals, training and related assistance to families and communities around the world.  Give a present for birthday or other occasion that helps end hunger. Honor a friend by providing a cow, llama, bees or ducks to help a struggling family become self-reliant. Heifer Project International has helped 4 million families through the gift of livestock and training.

Transparency International
Home Page of Transparency International, the international coalition against corruption in international business transactions and in support of just and honest government.  TI-USA is the U.S. chapter of Transparency International, the not-for-profit, non-governmental organization committed to countering corruption in international business transactions and, through its national chapters, to curbing corruption at the national level. 

World Resources Institute
WRI believes the remedy to global environment and development problems lies not in reducing growth, but in breaking the connection between expanded prosperity and depleted resources. We provide information, ideas, and solutions to catalyze public and private action on biological resource stewardship, climate protection, sustainable development and governance paths, and environmentally-sound business enterprise.  Research Areas include biodiversity, business and industry, climate change, forests, health, governance, and sustainable agriculture.
