Dean's Message

Dean SevimWelcome to the School of Engineering home page where you will find information about our accredited academic programs, outstanding faculty and staff, outreach and summer programs, student organizations, scholarships, internships, co-op opportunities, and much, much more.

I am very happy to be the Dean of an exciting engineering school, housed in an award-winning building, with excellent undergraduate and graduate programs, whose graduates are highly demanded by engineering, computer science, and construction companies.

We are one of the most comprehensive engineering schools in the metropolitan Saint Louis area with eight undergraduate programs, five masters programs, and a cooperative doctoral program.  Increasingly high demand to enroll into our programs and close to one hundred percent placement of our students in the industry as they graduate are clear testimonies to the quality of the engineering education at SIUE.

Our students are not only educated in the classroom and laboratory but also through internships, co-ops, undergraduate research projects, and student chapters that participate in collegiate contests such as the formula race car, solar car, mini Baja, robotics, steel bridge, concrete canoe, and many more.  The engineering, information technology, and construction companies in the Metropolitan St. Louis area provide exciting, challenging, and well-paid internships and co-op opportunities to our students.  Most of these temporary positions turn into permanent jobs.

The School is well-positioned to play an important role in SIUE’s vision to solidify its stance as a premier metropolitan university.  In the next few years, as a vital component of this vision, the School will develop an “Engineering Community” comprised of area high schools; community colleges; engineering , manufacturing, information technology, and construction companies; and our School with its alumni, students, faculty, staff, and advisory boards.  This structure will ensure the quality and success of the engineering programs for many years to come.

Visit the site often and watch our progress as we launch and develop our Engineering Community through which we will fulfill our mission to prepare the men and women who responsibly and effectively build the future of our society.
