Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics! We are a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Our Department consists of 20 permanent faculty members who are involved in internationally recognized research in several areas of pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and operations research; several are involved in interdisciplinary collaboration ranging from biology and medicine to engineering, and even to music. The faculty have been supported in their research by the National Science Foundation, Fulbright Foundation, National Security Agency, and other organizations, in addition to internal grants. Our faculty enjoys national and international recognition. They serve on editorial boards of leading scientific journals and on professional panels, and they organize and participate in national and international conferences.
Our department has a tradition of excellence in teaching, both in the classroom with professors and students working together on research problems. Graduate students have the opportunity to participate in the department's teaching mission while being mentored by award-winning professors.
Our undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for a wide range of professions that utilize mathematics. Our students have been employed in private, federal, state, and academic institutions. If you
