Shortly after receiving my masters degree in medical-surgical nursing, I joined the faculty at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. There, I team taught the junior level students in the surgical nursing course which included didactic teaching and clinical teaching in the operating room (OR), recovery room (PACU) and post op care unit. I taught the last junior class there in 1980, and when that class graduated in 1981, Michael Reese School of Nursing closed.

At Chicago State University College of Nursing, my baccalaureate teaching experience included courses in Medical-surgical Nursing, Leadership and Nursing Management, Introduction to Nursing I & II which included sophomore, junior and senior level students. Clinical teaching included operating room, orthopedic unit and nursing management at Michael Reese Hospital, medical-surgical unit and intensive care (ICU) at St. Bernard's Hospital, surgical intensive care (SICU) at Cook County Hospital and a cancer unit at the University of Chicago Hospital.

While at SIUE School of Nursing, I have taught about 13 different courses for undergraduate, RN-BS program and graduate level students. These courses have included the topics of medical-surgical nursing, teaching and learning, research, physical assessment, psychomotor skills, contemporary health care issues, health policy and advanced practice nursing, and health policy and law. Clinical teaching has included medical-surgical units, physical assessment lab, psychomotor skills lab and supervision of senior and graduate students in a variety of units and sites for their experiences with preceptors.
