About the Fact Book
The SIUE Fact Book is an annual publication of standardized university information compiled by the Office of Institutional Research and Studies. It provides current and historical data about the university, covering aspects such as student enrollment, alumni statistics, faculty and staff, academic programs, instruction, and financial information.

The SIUE Fact Book is organized into four sections which cover different aspects of the university.
The General Section provides an overview of the university, including:
- General Overview – the university’s mission, history, accreditation, academic calendar, and institutional structure
- Program Inventory – detailed department, degree title, and historical approval information for available major programs and specializations
- Financial Data – budget allocations, tuition rates, financial aid, etc.
The Student Section provides detailed insights into the university's student population. It includes data on:
- Prospective and New Student Trends - statistics for applicants, admissions, and enrollments over time and characteristics for incoming new and transfer students
- Enrollment Trends – breakdown of undergraduate and graduate student numbers over time.
- Demographics – Information on gender distribution, race/ethnicity, and residency status.
- Attendance Status – full-time vs. part-time enrollment statistics.
- Retention & Graduation Rates – metrics on student success and degree completion
The Academic Programs Section provides insights into the university's degree offerings, program enrollment, and student outcomes. It includes data on:
- Academic Units – complete listing of major, minor, and other programs by academic department and college or school.
- Students by Program – historical demographic data on student enrollment and degrees awarded across different academic disciplines by college or school.
- Instruction – summarized and detailed instructional data, including state-funded student credit hours and distribution, class meeting patterns and sizes, student-to-faculty ratio, instructional costs, and student learning benchmarks.
The Faculty and Staff section of the SIUE Fact Book provides insights into the university's workforce and includes details for its instructional faculty, including:
- Staff Composition – overview of administrative staff, faculty, and support personnel.
- Employee Headcounts – breakdown of faculty and staff numbers by employee class and demographics, as well as a breakdown of new hires.
- Instructional Faculty Headcounts – details on tenure status, rank, diversity, and academic qualifications.
