Teaching assistants at LIS information desks and reference services provide point-of-need information literacy instruction, provide research assistance in-person and for remote users through phone, email, and live chat, and manage the operations of the combined information and circulation desk.
TAs apply critical pedagogy that emphasize the empowerment of learners, the retention of ownership over learning and the discovery process, and the development of agency to guide students through complex reference inquiries and the research process.
TAs will acquire advanced training, knowledge, and experience in information literacy knowledge practices and dispositions, reference interviewing, information behavior, information retrieval, and the wide continuum of the information search process in order to support student learning and success.
Must be available during evening and weekend hours.
Must attend in-person mandatory training and onboarding August 7 - 11.
There are 3 positions available at Lovejoy Library (Edwardville) and 1 position available at the Biomedical Library on the Alton campus.
