Welcome back, students!
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the School of Engineering – Welcome to the 2023-24 academic year! We are glad you are here and hope that you have had a safe and relaxing summer and are ready for the fall semester.
We are excited to have you as a part of our engineering community and encourage you to be an active member. Whether it is participating in student organizations or connecting with your peers there is a place for you here.
Your School of Engineering student organizations used what they learned in the classroom to really shine last spring:
- Engineering Student Take Top Prize at eHacks Competition
- SIUE Cougar Baja Takes 6th in Winter Baja
- ASHRAE Student Chapter Places Fourth and Receives Global Recognition Earning the Rising Star Award in Atlanta
The School of Engineering regularly evaluates our programs and facilities to effectively respond to rapidly changing technologies and workforce demands without forgetting to celebrate the excellence among our students. In addition to the Cybersecurity Engineering program recently approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, we had the following exciting developments last semester:

- School of Engineering Celebrates Academic Excellence and Awards Over $122,000 in Scholarships
- Seiler Instrument and Manufacturing Company Presents SIUE School of Engineering with a gift of over $214,000 in Equipment to Launch New Land Surveying and Geomatics Degree
Finally, our faculty use their knowledge and experience to share their knowledge with others in their field:
- SIUE’s Luo Publishes Three Monographs in Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering
- SIUE’s Celik Publishes New Book About Sustainable Energy
- SIUE’s Scott Umbaugh’s New Books Explain Novel Developments in the Ever-Evolving Digital Age
- SIUE’s School of Engineering Hosted Regional ASEE Conference
What you learn in the School of Engineering directly relates to helping people and improving the world. We want you to have the best experience possible and we will work with you to accomplish that.
Have a great semester!
