Requirements
To continue receiving the Johnetta Haley Scholarship (JHS), recipients must complete all of the requirements for the Fall 2023 semester:
- Complete Fall 2023 Johnetta Haley Scholarship Orientation (see below)
- Finish the Fall 2023 semester with a 2.9 cumulative GPA
- Finish the Fall 2023 semester with at least 12 credit hours (full-time student status)
- Complete and submit 12 hours of community service between May 5 - November 27, 2023
- Complete 3 Public Thinking Exhibits during the Fall 2023 semester
By accepting this scholarship as part of your financial aid award you agree to the terms and conditions of the scholarship detailed here.

SEPTEMBER
20 - 21: Group A Public Thinking Exhibit #1/3 (11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Eugene B. Redmond Center, Lovejoy Library 2nd Floor)
27 - 28: Group B Public Thinking Exhibit #1/3 (Response survey due 9/28 by 11:59 p.m.)
OCTOBER
25 - 26: Group A Public Thinking Exhibit #2/3 (11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Eugene B. Redmond Center, Lovejoy Library 2nd Floor)
NOVEMBER
1 - 2: Group B Public Thinking Exhibit #2/3 (Response survey due 11/2 by 11:59 p.m.)
20 - 24: Thanksgiving Break
27: Community Service Hours Due by 11:59 p.m.
29 - 30: Group A Public Thinking Exhibit #3/3 (11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Eugene B. Redmond Center, Lovejoy Library 2nd Floor)
DECEMBER
6 - 7: Group B Public Thinking Exhibit #3/3 (Response survey due 12/7 by 11:59 p.m.)
11 - 15: Final Exams

All recipients of the Johnetta Haley Scholarship are expected to read through the 8-page Johnetta Haley Scholarship Student Guide every semester. This guide will serve as a reference all year long, with general information about the Johnetta Haley Scholarship, community service information, Public Thinking Exhibit information, and frequently asked questions. JHS Orientation Video
Johnetta Haley Scholarship Orientation is required for Johnetta Haley Scholarship recipients who are new to SIUE (first-year freshmen and transfer students) or returning students who were not enrolled at SIUE, withdrew, or did not receive the scholarship during the Spring 2023 semester.
- It is highly recommended that students watch the orientation video with their parents or guardians.
- This orientation is monitored and will track how much of the video is watched by each student.
- Students must watch the entire 34-minute video to receive credit toward completing required orientation.
