Nursing (Accelerated RN to BS) – Admitted Students

After your Application is Complete:

  • You will receive a letter from the SIUE Office of Admissions with instructions for connecting with SIUE by creating your e-id and setting up your SIUE email.
  •  SIUE will verify your employment and confirm that you are able to participate in the corporate partnership agreement.
  • You will have access to the SIUE School of Nursing Immersion Experience in Blackboard.
  • Your transfer credits will be evaluated.
  • The School of Nursing will provide a personalized course list for degree completion.
  • With an advisor, you will create a plan to complete the courses. Students have final approval of the plan.
  • SIUE staff will register you for all coursework.
  • Course materials: The required materials for each course are listed under the course descriptions tab; students are required to purchase or rent their own materials.

Nursing Immersion Course

Each student in the RN to BS Nursing program has access to an immersion which introduces all of the required online tools. This on-demand resource can be accessed from Blackboard. The immersion is separated into four modules:

  • How to be a successful online student
  • How to best use Blackboard tools
  • Library resources
  • Opportunity to demonstrate successful use of the Blackboard tools

The immersion will be available as a resource throughout the program. SIUE Instructional Technology Services is also available to assist students and provides additional resources and individual student support.

Grades

As a part of the application, you have given permission for SIUE to share your final grades with your employer. SIUE will submit your final grades one week after they are submitted.

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring is available for CHEM 120a General Organic & Biological Chemistry, QR 101 Quantitative Analysis, RA 101 Reasoning & Argumentation, and STAT 107 Concepts of Statistics.  Contact Mary Lou Wlodarek, Tutoring Resource Coordinator at mwlodar@siue.edu or 618.650.2055 to set up tutoring for these courses.

Drop and Withdrawal Policy

Students who find it necessary to drop a class must contact their advisor in writing (usually via email).  The advisor will drop the student and email a written confirmation of the drop; the student should retain the communication for his or her records.  Telling the instructor or not participating in the course does not constitute an official drop.  Students in the RN to BS partnership program take 8-week fully online classes and the drop/withdrawal policy is below.  Students who drop a course will be required to approve a new completion plan before registering for additional courses with the partnership program.

Awarding of Proficiency Credit

Academic proficiency credit for lower-division nursing courses completed as part of a student’s preparation for licensure program at another institution will be given to applicants who have completed their nursing course work within five years of acceptance into the SIUE School of Nursing Accelerated RN to BS program.

Applicants who have completed their nursing course work over five years prior to acceptance into the program must submit a portfolio of professional work. The portfolio will be reviewed by the assistant dean of undergraduate programs.

Applicants should contact the Accelerated RN to BS program advisor for details.

The proficiency credit is applied to the student’s transcript upon successful completion of NURS 240R and 335R with a grade of C or better.

The School of Nursing has identified the proficiency credit courses as those that have comparable content and skills as taught in courses at the associate-degree level in community college nursing programs. The proficiency credits will apply toward the nursing major at SIUE.

I joined the program because it was affordable as well as convenient. The fact that all of the classes are online makes going back to school possible for me. I work full time and have two little girls at home which means I have even less time to travel to campus for classes. The SSM tuition assistance has been an invaluable resource and is greatly appreciated. I would recommend any SSM employee wishing to obtain their Bachelor’s in Nursing to join this program because the entire admissions and registration process was simple and stress-free for me. That, coupled with the fact that the vast majority of the cost has been taken care of by my SSM tuition benefit, made this choice an easy one.
