Monthly Mensi Mondays
This month's MMM discussion will focus on menstruation as a human bodily function that is not determined by gender. Since this MMM will be taking place on the day before Trans Day of Visibility, it is important to recognize why access to these products needs to reach beyond the women's restroom. Queering Decolonial Theory: Maxi Glamour and the Refusal of Colonial Identity

Join SIUE Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies & Kimmel Belonging & Engagement Hub for a presentation and roundtable discussion exploring how transphobia and homophobia emerge from the legacies of colonialism. Grounded in intersectional Black liberation, Maxi Glamour invites participants to critically examine colonial constructions of gender and their ongoing impact. This conversation will also engage advocacy strategies that recognize the racialized and hierarchized dimensions of Queer organizing across different cultural and ethnic communities.
Maxi Glamour is the first drag artist from St. Louis to be featured on an international television series, appearing on season three of the Emmy-nominated Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. Known as the “Anti-Fascist Fairy,” Maxi has since taken drag to new heights, from the Amazon to the United Nations, and even into public office.
A philosopher, social critic, environmentalist, and LGBTQ+ rights advocate, Maxi has been featured in outlets ranging from the BBC to Entertainment Weekly, recognized not only for their artistry but for their fierce commitment to Queer liberation. As President and Co-founder of the Trans Housing Initiative St. Louis, and a mayor-appointed Commissioner of the Civil Rights Enforcement Agency, their work interrogates the colonial roots of transphobia and homophobia, building vital connections between Black liberation and Queer liberation.
