Student Participation
All students who will participate in a Celebration of Student Excellence ceremony should receive an award letter from Dr. Kevin Leonard, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This letter will be e-mailed to students from the cas_student_excellence@siue.edu account, and will contain information about their specific award or scholarship, who sponsors it, and the award amount.
The College will host two separate student recognition ceremonies in 2025: one on the evening of April 9 and another on the evening of April 29. Students will be notified in their award letter which ceremony they are participating in. Because of space limitations, only student honorees, department chairs, and award sponsors will attend. It is very important to track student attendance because students will be seated with award sponsors at these events. Students can RSVP via e-mail to cas_student_excellence@siue.edu.
Students are required to write thank-you notes, which the College shares later with award sponsors. If their award sponsors are at our Celebration of Student Excellence, they can also thank them in person and be photographed together.
Student award recipients are asked to submit photos that will be incorporated into the Celebration of Student Excellence ceremony in PowerPoint presentations and large posters. The best pictures portray students in relevant academic settings and ideally in an activity for which they receive an award. For example, a science student may be looking into a microscope in a laboratory, or an art student may be making pottery from clay. Photos and thank you notes can be e-mailed to cas_student_excellence@siue.edu. Students should include their name, department and award information in their e-mail.
Photos used in conjunction with the Celebration of Student Excellence may also be used in other promotions for the College of Arts and Sciences. All students need to complete the Photo Release Form.
Student scholarships and awards are also processed in the online scholarship management system. Students must complete a general application in the Award Management to receive and accept scholarships through that system.
