Dean’s Welcome
It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The College, commonly known as CAS, recently celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. CAS was formed when four schools merged into SIUE’s only college on July 1, 1995.
Over the past 25 years, CAS has engaged all SIUE undergraduates through general education courses, and thousands of students pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in one of the College’s dozens of degree programs. CAS offers degrees in a wide range of disciplines, from the visual and performing arts and the humanities to the sciences and social sciences. The College’s hundreds of outstanding faculty and staff are committed to helping students not only acquire knowledge but also to develop fully as critical thinkers, problem solvers and active participants in the local, national and global community. The shared vision of the CAS faculty and staff is expressed in our statement of the Desired Characteristics and Capabilities of Graduates.
CAS alumni enjoy rewarding careers in the offices, laboratories and classrooms of the St. Louis metropolitan area and the nation. They work in all occupations, including chemists, graphic designers, journalists, musicians, policy analysts, teachers, managers and business owners. Many give back to our communities as volunteers and public servants.
Please take a moment to explore further the exciting opportunities available to you and to view the remarkable accomplishments of those who make their academic homes in this College. Many of our more recent achievements can be discovered through the This Month In CAS link.
