Elven Davis, 1934-2024; Was Longtime Math and Science Teacher/Director at East St. Louis Campus
Elven Davis, of Collinsville, died Jan. 18 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was 89.
Davis began work at the SIUE East St. Louis Center (ESLC) on Oct. 1, 1968, with TRIO Upward Bound. He was a science teacher with the Upward Bound Science Awareness program. He later became Coordinator of the Upward Bound Math and Science program. He worked extensively with East St. Louis School District 189 and Cahokia, Brooklyn and Madison school districts in preparation for the SIUE regional and state science fairs. He retired and later returned to the ESLC, working as a consultant for the then five TRIO Upward Bound programs. He left the University on June 30, 2010.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 8 at Officer Funeral Home in East St. Louis. The funeral party will proceed to Jefferson Barracks for a graveside memorial to be held at 1:15 p.m.
