Carolyn Tuft Wilson, 1958-2017; Was College of Arts and Sciences Alumna
Carolyn Tuft Wilson, veteran journalist and award-winning investigative reporter at the Belleville News-Democrat and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, died Oct. 8 in her sleep following surgery. She was 59.
Tuft earned a bachelor’s in mass communications/journalism in 1987 from SIUE.
Tuft began her career as a reporter at the News-Democrat after graduating from SIUE. In 1992, she was awarded an IRE Medal, on one of the nation’s top awards for investigative reporting, by Investigative Reporters and Editors for a series of stories entitled “Blacks in Belleville,” which led to an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department that was reported on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”
She worked 18 years as an investigative reporter at the Post-Dispatch.
