University Housing Recognizes Residents on the Deans List
The annual Southern Illinois University Edwardsville University Housing Dean’s List Reception was held Tuesday, Feb. 7 in Evergreen Hall to recognize the 714 University Housing residents who achieved the fall 2016 dean’s list.
The scholarly list is compiled to recognize students who have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated in a term. Nearly 150 students and their guests attended the celebratory reception.
When asked what being on the dean’s list meant to her, Nogessy Garcia said, “Everything you do is for you, so make the best of it.”
Campus administrators, faculty members and housing staff members were on hand to celebrate the students’ academic achievements. The event included remarks from SIUE Chancellor Dr. Randy Pembrook and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Jeffrey Waple.
“One of the most rewarding days of the year for me is to see our academically successful students come together with faculty and staff to celebrate their accomplishments,” said Vicky Dean, assistant director of residential education in University Housing. “It’s an honor to plan this event for these students who make SIUE proud!”
Light refreshments, a lapel pin, the Cougar Wall of Fame and a selfie station were available for students at the event. When asked about the reception, Leslie Gearhart said, “I really liked the interactions with the faculty and staff during the reception.” Dilara Bilgic stated that the reception “Is a place you can feel proud of yourself.”
