Welcome to the School of Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville!
The School of Education prides itself on its commitment to excellence. This commitment reflects the School's goals of offering high quality programs for its students, exceptional service to the community, and cutting-edge research that informs policy and practice. The School is also committed to forming partnerships with a variety of educational, service, and business entities in order to advance research and innovative practices across a broad spectrum of professions and community organizations.
The School of Education at SIUE is unique in its combination of undergraduate and graduate professional programs that prepare individuals for a wide range of careers. The School of Education not only prepares highly qualified PreK-12 classroom teachers and administrators, but also professionals in exciting and high-need areas including exercise science, community health, clinical psychology, speech-language pathology and audiology, and instructional technology. Each of the academic disciplines reflects the School's mission to prepare professionals to serve the citizens of the southwest Illinois metropolitan area. We encourage you to explore our academic departments to discover the wide range of possibilities that the SOE can offer you!
The School of Education's licensure programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Illinois State Board of Education. These programs are guided by the School's conceptual framework, which describes the development of students as Inquirer-Professionals. Inquirer-Professionals positively impact the learning experiences of PreK-12 students through their understanding and application of professional knowledge, instructional processes, educational contexts, student learning, interpersonal skills, and professional relationships. We believe that Inquirer-Professionals are highly prepared to meet the exciting demands of today's schools!
In addition to our high quality academic programs, the School of Education also strives to engage students, alumni, and the community in a variety of activities. As a student, you can participate in a range of professional organizations that provide long-lasting friendships with students who share your interests and professional passion. Community members are supported through a variety of activities, including the Cougar Literacy Clinic and Speech-Language-Hearing Center, and can assist in sponsoring the School's outreach through a range of giving opportunities. We also encourage alumni to come back often to visit our we bsite for information on upcoming events and to share your ideas on how you and your colleagues would like to engage with the School. We would love to hear from you!
In order to actualize our vision of Innovation, Excellence, and Leadership, the School of Education is engaged in Goals 2021, a 10-year strategic planning process. Through Goals 2021, the School is developing action steps around three critical themes: Individual Relevance, Regional Responsiveness, and International Recognition. We invite you to provide feedback as we collaboratively re-envision the School's future.
We hope that you enjoy your virtual visit to the School of Education! I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you personally, and to share with you our commitment to excellence at SIUE!
