To this date, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has not addressed the needs of the faculty teaching online, and has only addressed the course requirements. This project is a self-paced course for faculty transitioning from traditional teaching and learning to online teaching and learning. Faculty will take an online, module-based course covering the following subject areas: What to expect with online teaching and learning; syllabus development; aligning objectives to assessments; online synchronous and asynchronous communication; and time management. The modules can be taken in any order, but all must be completed to successfully complete the course.
This online course will be designed and delivered on the Blackboard learning management system with instructional designers from the Instructional Design and Learning Technologies Center at SIUE acting as facilitators.
The intended audience is SIUE faculty planning to teach in the summer of 2013. The participants will have already submitted the Online/Blended Learning Course Form (Form 94) and have received approval from their department’s Chair and Dean to teach an online or blended course. It has been my experience that many faculty are busy throughout the semester and do not have the time to take a traditional course or facilitated course in addition to their standard teaching load. A self-paced course should be more acceptable as it can be taken at the faculty’s convenience.
The goal of this course is to assist faculty transitioning from traditional teaching and learning to online teaching and learning.
