Women in Mathematics WebQuest - Process

Follow these steps to accomplish your WebQuest:

1.    Choose a woman mathematician from the list on the Task page.  You may want to browse some of the resources on the Resources page in order to make your decision.

2.    Using the resources listed for the mathematician you have chosen, create at least 10 questions you would ask your chosen mathematician.  Examples of these questions are:

    a.    Where were you born, and where did you live during your lifetime?

    b.    What areas of math were of great interest to you; in what areas did you work?

    c.    What are some "non-math" facts that we would find of interest?

I'm sure you can think of other questions that are as good or better than these; just use these to start your mental processes turning!

3.    Create a report on your chosen mathematician based, at least in part, on the questions you created.  The report should be word-processed, double-spaced.  It can take the format of either a traditional essay (introduction, a body of several paragraphs, conclusion) or a magazine interview with the mathematician (introduction, actual interview, conclusion).  The report should include your impression of the mathematician and how her life might inspire or affect decisions you make in your own life.

4.    Turn in the report to your instructor by the due date given to you.  You may turn in a copy of your report in person or email it to me (jusimms@siue.edu) as an attachment by the beginning of class on the due date.
